History & Origin
Beagles have been around since Roman times, but the modern Beagle was developed in England in the 19th century as a scent hound for hunting small game like rabbits. Their excellent sense of smell makes them widely used as detection dogs for customs and security agencies.
Fun Fact
Beagles have one of the best senses of smell among all dog breeds, second only to the Bloodhound! This makes them great at tracking scents, which is why they are often used in airports for detecting illegal substances.
